In pictures: the Huawei Ascend P2 smartphone

4G, a 4.7-inch display, quad-core and a 13MP camera -- this phone is up against the best

  • Huawei's latest smartphone, the Ascend P2, has specs that place it squarely against the best Android phones of 2013. It's even got a chipset that supports LTE Category 4, the fastest mobile data standard around. We took a look at one. The Ascend P2's box is simple, dominated by a picture of the phone.

  • Another look at the front of the Ascend P2's box.

  • The rear of the box lists off all the features and specifications of the P2.

  • Open the box and the first thing you'll see is the phone, which has a protective film on the front glass.

  • Underneath the phone is a smaller box of accessories.

  • You get a pair of earphones, A hockey-puck charger, microUSB cable, manuals, and a bag to throw away your old phone in.

  • Here's the Ascend P2. It's quite a simple phone at the front -- no buttons, since the three Android menu buttons are touch-sensitive.

  • Around the back there's a small speaker slit and the camera module -- 13 megapixels.

  • The microUSB charging port and power button are on the top and right-hand side respective.

  • The left bottom side has the speaker and a dedicated camera button.

  • Another look at the camera module.

  • When you turn the Ascend P2 on, you're greeted with a Telstra welcome screen -- this device is sold exclusively through Telstra stores, although you can purchase it outright.

  • Huawei's Emotion UI is a simple skin on the top of Android 4.1, and is centred around a unified home screen widget, although it's different from other Emotion UI skins in that it retains the standard Android app drawer.
