Performance

It’s in the performance of the OnePlus 5 that the company’s promise to “Never Settle” holds the most weight.

The device sits at just above half the price of phones like the Galaxy S8 and HTC U11. However, in both our benchmarking and time with the device, it delivered an incredibly-close level of performance to both them and  several other flagships.

Although our broader testing saw it outperform rivals less than half the time, it’s telling that the difference between the OnePlus 5 and the competition is so small. At times, it feels almost negligible.

When we ran it through Antutu’s benchmarking app, it actually gave the OnePlus 5 the top spot on its globally-indexed rankings with a score of 181095 - outperforming literally everything out there.

Overall, we came away really impressed during our time with the OnePlus 5. The device’s Oxygen OS was quick, clean and stable. We didn’t run into any major incompatibilities and the software did a great job of prompting us to update, ensuring it was always on the latest and most secure version available.

OnePlus have confirmed to us that the device will be getting a software upgrade to Android 8.0 Oreo later down the line, which is something to look forward to.
