HP EliteBook Family or ZBook Premium Suite, Where Do You Sit?

Get the right tools for the job

How do you cater for specialist users?  Is there someone who’s crunching data, creating content, developing software, or working in an engineering role in your team? If so – should you be choosing a business laptop for them, or a workstation equivalent?  What’s the difference? Take HP’s range of EliteBook’s and ZBook mobile workstations for example, although the ZBook Studio x360 G5 and EliteBook x360 1030 G3 Notebook PC may seem similar on face-value, they’re designed for vastly different computing tasks. When identifying the right device for a particular team or employee, there’s four questions you need to ask yourself and assess before implementation:

1. What applications will the end-user be running?

2. How mobile is the user, and where are they being mobile?

3. How big is your team?

4. What’s your budget?

We’re now going to answer the above questions for the HP ZBook Studio x360 G5 and HP EliteBook x360 1030 G3.

What applications will the end-user be running?

The most important element to consider is the applications, will the end-user be running multiple design-heavy applications like Autocad and MechDesigner on a regular basis? With models certified for use with leading applications for engineering, architecture, industrial design, advanced computer simulations and VR, the ZBook series is built for the power user. 8th Gen Intel Xeon processors let the ZBook tackle heavy workloads while its ECC memory provides you with stability, data integrity and protection from potential crashes. Its NVIDIA Quadro P1000 3D graphics let those with an eye for design seamlessly edit and render multi-layered files across the Adobe suite and other high-powered applications, and the addition of the Wacom AES pen lets you design an end-to-end workflow solution – sketch, concept, model and render 3D designs through apps like Autodesk Sketchbook and Alias, all on the one device.

How mobile is the user, and where are they being mobile?

How mobile and versatile does the user need to be? The ZBook can be the perfect tool for an architect or engineer looking to work in and outside of the office using applications like REVIT and Autocad, seamlessly editing and marking-up blueprints on the construction site if necessary. If versatility is what you need, then the ZBook’s stand and tent mode allows you to showcase and collaborate on designs while its tablet mode is perfect for sketching and editing on-the-go. To knuckle-down and see your work up close, simply dock your ZBook and connect to multiple displays. Security features including fingerprint reader, facial recognition and HP Sure View provide the user with peace of mind knowing their intellectual property is safely secure when working remotely.

How big is your team and what’s your budget?

Are you implementing for one user or a team of users? One user would allow the refresh to be very specific and a ZBook is perhaps the best solution, but if implementing for an entire team with varying roles, budget will play a significant role. If your purchasing decision is cost-dependent, it’s important to know the differences between the Elite and Z ranges. See below a specification breakdown for both the ZBook and EliteBook.

What applications will the end-user be running?

If the end-user is invested in business development and marketing, where perhaps Microsoft Office 365 is their day-to-day toolkit, the EliteBook x360 would be more suited to this style of user than a ZBook. Housing an 8th Gen Intel Core i7 processor, the EliteBook provides the user with enterprise class performance perfect for the business manager or executive that’s on the go, always connected, and a non - stop emailer. Unlike the ZBook, the EliteBook doesn’t house the necessary processing and graphics capabilities to seamlessly run the design-heavy applications mentioned earlier, instead it’s designed for a user angled toward business development and collaboration.

How mobile is the user, and where are they being mobile?

As the modern workplace continues to evolve, more and more people are working remotely, on-the-go, anytime and anywhere. Is the user consistently travelling, working from remote locations and relying on collaboration tools? If so, then the EliteBook x360 fits this user type well. Engineered for collaboration the user can enjoy one-touch controls with the HP Premium Collaboration Keyboard as well as a premium audio experience for those conference calls in a busy location. Much like the ZBook, the EliteBook is built for versatility, enjoy the laptop mode for a typical 9-5 day at the office, tent mode to enhance a conference or presentation, tablet mode when reading on a flight or in transit and media mode when watching an online webinar. Also, as you would expect from HP, work remotely with peace of mind knowing you’ve got security features in place to avoid visual hacking, and monitor and restore in-memory BIOS automatically if the need arises.

How big is your team and what’s your budget?

The EliteBook is more cost-effective than the ZBook and would suit a larger roll-out of devices if your purchasing decision is cost-dependant. With the versatility of the device, having an entire team running EliteBook’s would foster new avenues of collaboration and conferencing capabilities. Together with this, it’s important to consider when looking at the ZBook, will all users utilise the power it’s capable of? A specification comparison can be seen below of the two devices.

So where do you sit?

To best enable business growth, it’s important that employees are utilising the most suitable technology designed for their role. The HP ZBook Studio x360 is built with creative roles in mind, if you’re a mobile architect, engineer or designer with a need for power and capability than the ZBooks for you. On the other hand, if you’re a mobile executive with business development in mind, the EliteBook x360 1030 G3 has you covered.
