Huawei are ‘exploring’ what a gaming-Matebook might look like

If you’re looking at Huawei’s current Matebook lineup, there’s one key omission in the form of gaming.

However, speaking to PC World Australia, a Huawei representative indicated the Chinese technology company might be looking to expand into the gaming space in the near future.

“We’re kind of exploring that across several different categories. It is not something that is quite clearly defined for Huawei yet but it's definitely something currently that’s being explored”

Obviously, this is far from a solid confirmation about Huawei’s intentions to enter the gaming space but it’s still a very intriguing possibility to consider - especially given how impressive the company’s premium workhorse notebooks have been to date.

It is unclear at this time whether a Huawei laptop designed for gaming would bear the Matebook brand or operate under a pseudonym in the same way the HP’s Omen brand or ASUS’ Republic of Gamers does.

Both PC-focused OEMs like HP and rivals like Samsung currently offer dedicated gaming sub-brands. Huawei does not. Thus far, the closest they’ve gotten to gaming is the MX150 dedicated graphics found in the Matebook X Pro and the new Matebook 13.

It is also unknown whether a gaming-focused Matebook would run Intel or AMD hardware. Thus far, Huawei's efforts in the PC gaming space have mainly opted for the former.

The current Matebook laptop range breaks out into four series of products: the mainline Matebook, the X-series, the E-series and the D-series.

The new Matebook 13 was launched in Australia earlier this week.
