With the Tech Industry set for 5% growth in 2017, it has never been a more attractive option for a career. The roles available are many, the chances to learn and develop are great, and the salary potential is very good indeed. It's easy to think of the industry as a particularly hard one to get into, and it can be, but there are ways to make the change. Here are 10 ways to land a job in the Tech Industry in 2017.

1. Learn to code

If you look at the tech roles available online, one requirement stands above the rest: the ability to program. It's vital, even if you are not looking specifically for a programming role, that you have knowledge of how it works. It's the basis of the tech industry. Learn how to use HTML, C++, Java, Visual Basic amongst others. You can do this self-taught, but a course will give you the best foundation. Australia has several learn to program schools around such as Coder Factory Academy which offer coder boot camps.

2. Write a program

With your new programming skills it's important to put them to the test and write a program. This is especially important if you teach yourself how to program. If you cannot show a potential employer evidence of a formal programming qualification, then show them a program you have created.

3. Open Source projects

It's important to get involved with an open source project. These will help you develop the skills to program and problem solve within a team. As well as this you'll be able to learn from others much quicker than you would on your own.

4. Build a personal website

Creating a website is very important. To an employer being able to see what you are capable of creating is far more important than how many times you tell them that you are a brilliant programmer. Building a website also shows that you have vision and imagination, after all, not all roles are in programming.

5. Understand the market

The tech industry is a large market with a huge variety of roles. Make sure you do your research. Go into your search with an open mind and find a role that best suits the experience you have already gained outside the industry.
