Sony Ericsson's Xperia Play will launch in June and have a recommended retail price of $1,099, the company announced yesterday.
Like the Xperia Arc, the Play will be carried by both Vodafone and Telecom.
The phone will have a battery life that supports five and a half hours of gaming time, and the phone benchmarks at 60fps when gaming, Sony Ericsson spokesperson James Buckingham said.
The Xperia Play is capable of online multiplayer with other Play devices, and since the device is capable of acting as a Wi-Fi hotspot, several people can connect and compete against each other using one person's 3G connection.
Sony Ericsson are "building an ecosystem" around the Xperia Play, Buckingham said, and he expected the game library to increase exponentially by the end of the year.
PC World obtained two review models of the device yesterday, pre-installed with PlayStation classic Crash Bandicoot and Gameloft's Star Battalion, amongst other games. We will run a full review of the Xperia Play in June's issue.
