Orcon has updated customers on its ultra-fast broadband plans and said that users of Orcon's voice over IP device, the Genius, will be able to switch to fibre as soon as fibre is available in their street.
Both businesses and residential customers will be able to make the switch, Orcon said. Those customers will be the trial customers.
While further details are yet to be announced, Orcon said the pricing would be reasonable.
"UFB prices will be announced soon, but it will be very affordable," an Orcon spokesperson said on the company's Twitter account.
The company said that Whangarei, Albany and Wellington were the first areas to get UFB.
All residents in Chorus's 'Year One' zone will be able to make the switch by the end of 2012.
To see if you're in a Year One zone, check out Chorus's Our Network page. Orcon's website says that when fibre is laid in your street, you will receive a flyer in the mail.
Pre-registration is also available on the company's website.
