Today has been a big day for video games, and it's only 10am. We've got the newest trailers from Mass Effect 3, Halo 4, and Assassin's Creed III.

Assassin's Creed III

Assassin's Creed III is set in 18th century North America, where Americans and the British are on the brink of war. The newest Assassin, Ratohnhaké:ton - he calls himself Connor for obvious reasons - can be seen fighting what appears to be British soldiers.

Assassin's Creed III is set for release on 30 October, 2012.

Halo 4

Halo 4's trailer is actually less of a trailer and more of a developer diary. In it, develoeprs talk about the difficulty of creating a Halo game that stays true to Bungie's legacy, while still managing to stamp 343 Industries' own brand on it. The developers want to make "every aspect of [Halo] bigger and better".

The game's protagonist will face a threat that is beyond anything he has faced before, 343's Frank O'Connor said. Multiplayer maps will not be taken from the campaign but will be built specifically for competitive play. The company has even come up with a reason why blue spartans fight red spartans - we hope it's based on Red vs. Blue's take on the games.

Halo 4 will be available by the end of the year.

Mass Effect 3

A new trailer, called 'Take Earth Back', is the most compelling Mass Effect 3 trailer yet. That's all we're going to say about it - watch it yourself to see exactly how epic it is.

Mass Effect 3 comes out this Friday. Can't wait? A Twitter hashtag has been created in anticipation that might tide you over, #solcomms, where fans have been tweeting about a War of the Worlds-style alien invasion with creatures from the Mass Effect universe. What's cool about it is that fans have even been photoshopping their own images to keep up the hoax.
