BarCraft NZ held 14 events in 2012, more to come

BarCraft events at which fans of StarCraft II get together to watch competitive gaming leagues at a bar, are going from strength to strength

Fourteen BarCraft events were held nationwide last year, according to event organiser Company of Gamers.

This year, BarCraft will kick off by showcasing 2012 highlights in StarCraft II competitive play at events in both Auckland and Wellington.

The Wellington event will take place on 30 March at Bruhaus, and the Auckland event is at the Bluestone Room in the CBD on 31 March.

In New Zealand, organisers also put together tournaments for StarCraft II and other games such as League of Legends and Dota 2. Company of Gamers last year held 15 tournaments all over the country.

According to Company of Gamers, the organisation gave away more than $3000 in cash prizes to tournament winners, as well as more than $13,000 in sponsors' products in 2012.

BarCraft is an event where fans of StarCraft II - and intrigued bystanders - get together at a bar to watch competitive players face off in the game.

The first BarCraft event in New Zealand was held in February 2012, in the now-defunct Corporate Box bar in Auckland. Additional BarCraft events have since been held in Wellington and Christchurch.
