Samsung announces Galaxy Note for NZ

The half-phone, half-tablet mobile device known as the Galaxy Note will be available in New Zealand from next month, Samsung said yesterday.

Samsung's half-phone, half-tablet mobile device known as the Galaxy Note will be available in New Zealand from next month, the company said yesterday in Auckland.

The company made the announcement less than a month after CES, where it announced the device would be launching on the US market.

A Samsung representative told Computerworld that the device would sell in New Zealand for “around $1,099”.

The Galaxy Note has a 5.3-inch, AMOLED display with a 1280 x 800 pixel resolution.

The Galaxy Note is huge

The device runs on a 1.4GHz dual-core processor and 16GB on-board storage. It has a microSD card slot for expandable storage, plus a slot for a stylus.

PC World
was told that when drawing with the stylus on screen, pressing down harder on the screen would produce a darker line, and vice versa.

The Galaxy Note also has an 8MP rear-facing camera which can record and play back in 1080p high definition, as well as a 2MP front-facing camera.

Vodafone will carry the Note, but a Telecom representative was in attendance and talking to reporters about the device.

The company made the announcement at an event to mark six months until the 2012 London Olympic Games. New Zealand Olympians Barbara Kendall and Rob Waddell were in attendance.
