Facebook and Apple join forces to give away an iPad 3 (no, not really)

With the hype machine for the iPad 3 already beginning to whir into life, it will come as no surprise to anyone that Symantec has uncovered a scam email doing the rounds purporting to give the non-existant devices away.

With the hype machine for the iPad 3 already beginning to whir into life, it will come as no surprise to anyone that Symantec has uncovered a scam email doing the rounds purporting to give the non-existant devices away.

Interestingly, the email purports to come from Facebook chief executive Mark Zuckerberg. In the screenshot provided by Symantec Zuckerberg is, for some reason, using a Hotmail email address. Seems legit.

The email claims that Facebook and Apple have joined forces to give away an iPad 3 in exchange for filling out a survey.

Symantec said the purpose of the survey is to collect "valuable personal information" on the victim, and verify that the email address is still in service.

"Click fraud may also be in play here whereby scammers make money every time a user clicks on the link to the survey," the company said.

It looks fake It looks fake straight away! I guess I'm used to looking out for fake emails but I'm sure Mark wouldn't email us direct for anything, he'd have his little monkeys onto that.
